We stand in unwavering solidarity with the Indigenous Peoples of Abra in their just and courageous resistance against the destructive FCFโs Yamang Mineral Corporation (YMC) large-scale mining project. Your fight is just and a testament to the collective will of Indigenous communities to protect their ancestral lands, rights, and future generations.
The recent Sumikad Abra forum demonstrated the growing strength of the Abra Indigenous communities. They exposed and spoke against YMCโs blatant violations, including the disregard for Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) processes and the militarization of their lands to secure corporate interests. These injustices will not be met with silence.
KATRIBU condemns YMCโs attempts to exploit and plunder the ancestral lands of Sallapadan, Lacub, Malibcong, and Licuan-Baay under Exploration Permit Application (EXPA) 129. Their unauthorized mineral sampling, aerial surveys, and forced entry into Indigenous communities are clear violations of both domestic laws and the Indigenous Peoplesโ inherent rights, as well as international human rights standards.
These attacks on ancestral lands are further compounded by the looming threats of so-called renewable energy and hydropower projects in Abra, such as the Abra-Kalinga Wind Farm, Beyond Renewable Energy Corporationโs wind initiative, and the proposed Palsuguan Dam. These projectsโmasked as โdevelopmentโโprioritize corporate greed over the lives, rights, and heritage of Indigenous Peoples, further endangering their communities and environment.
We call on all Indigenous Peoples, environmental defenders, and advocates to stand with Abra communities in this fight against large-scale mining, destructive energy projects, and other forms of corporate plunder. Together, let us uphold Indigenous Peoplesโ right to self-determination and defend our ancestral lands from destruction and exploitation.
