The Katribu Kalipunan ng Katutubong Mamamayan ng Pilipinas (National Alliance of Indigenous Peoples in the Philippines) stands in solidarity with the communities of El Salvador in their fight to keep mining out of the country. The reintroduction of mining threatens your environment, livelihoods, and human rights.
We share your struggles, as our lands have also been ravaged by mining operations, resulting in environmental destruction, displacement, and the violation of our rights as stewards of our ancestral domains.
We echo your call to reject mining that prioritizes profit over people and the planet. Together, we call on President Nayib Bukele to honor the will of the Salvadoran people by reinstating the 2017 mining ban and dropping all charges against the five (5) ADES Santa Marta Five Water Defenders who are unjustly facing retrial.
We urge international allies to stand with the people of El Salvador. Please sign the letter to President Bukele and amplify the voices of those fighting to protect their land and future. Let us strengthen our united efforts to preserve our shared environment and recognize our people’s rights to self-determination.
